Dividing Cheez-Its!
To start thinking about Division Mrs. Young gave us Cheez-Its.....but she didn't give us equal numbers or a package for each student! We had to split up the bag evenly between our group and find out if there was any remainders!

Cold Weather
Cold weather has come! Please remember to send winter weather clothing for recess! We have had some cold ears and fingers the last 2 days! :)
Multiplication Flash Cards
Multiplication flash cards will be coming home in the SPACE folders. It is not a requirement that these be done at home, but the third graders were very excited about starting this and wanted some! :) We will be practicing multiplication facts at school, and will be doing quick tests on them on Fridays. To move on to the next set of flash cards you must master the ones that come before it. The requirement for this is to correctly finish the test in 2 minutes or less. I will send home any of the flash cards your student will need to practice. Right now this is either the x2 or x2 and x3 cards.

Do We Stay or Do We Go?
Today we started reading Little House on the Prairie. We spent some time time today discussing the Oregon Trail and how families made the decision to head West or stay put.
What Can Electricity Do?
We kicked off our new science unit today! We started learning about electrical circuits. Mrs. Young gave us 1 wire, 1 battery, and 1 lightbulb and we had to figure out how to get that lightbulb to light!

Testing Advice
This was shared with us from Mr. Schneider in our Daily Memo, but I thought I would pass this along. (It was shared with the kids today!)
“We are concerned that these tests do not always assess all of what it is that make each of you special and unique. The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you-- the way your teachers do, the way I hope to, and certainly not the way your families do. They do not know that many of you speak two languages. They do not know that you can play a musical instrument or that you can dance or paint a picture. They do not know that your friends count on you to be there for them or that your laughter can brighten the dreariest day. They do not know that you write poetry or songs, play or participate in sports, wonder about the future, or that sometimes you take care of your little brother or sister after school. They do not know that you have traveled to a really neat place or that you know how to tell a great story or that you really love spending time with special family members and friends. They do not know that you can be trustworthy, kind or thoughtful, and that you try, every day, to be your very best... the scores you get will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything. There are many ways of being smart.”
