This Week In 3Y!!

We had a lot of fun this week!

We continued working on reading and writing big numbers!  We have been writing and reading numbers in the millions!  We worked on identifying the sequence of events and picking out what is important in the text as well!  We also practiced this today while watching our Thanksgiving film Mouse on the Mayflower!  We had to write the sequence of events of the film!

We are about finished with our Public Service Announcements for science!  Here is a link to the ones we have uploaded thus far!

Another Great Week!

It has been another great week in 3Y!  We took our Unit 4 math test and increased our class average by 82% from the pretest!!  (12% to 94%!!!!)  WOW!!!  What a brilliant group of kids!

We have now moved on to Unit 5 in math and will be focusing on the following learning targets:
1.  I can read and write very large numbers.
2.  I can read and write decimals.
3.  I can use base 10 blocks to work with decimals.
4.  I can add and subtract 2-digit numbers.
5.  I can use ballpark estimates.
6.  I can add and subtract extended facts.

We chant these in math each morning so that we can practice saying that "I can!"

We also finished up Unit 2 in reading and have started Unit 3, our learning targets for reading are going to be:
1. I can follow agreed upon rules for class discussions.
2.  I can determine text importance.
3.  I can identify the sequence of events in a text.

In science we are still working on creating our public service announcements.  We have planned and are starting to shoot our videos!

I am so proud of the progress 3Y is making!  Thank you for all the support at home!

Have a great weekend!

This Week In 3Y!

This week we continued working on multiplication!  We got to play baseball multiplication to practice these facts!  This is also available at home through the Everyday Math website!

In reading we started a new readers theater about immigrating to a new country!  We are focusing on appropriate pausing while reading.  (See photo below)  I am so impressed with the hard work the students are putting into their reading!

With word work we continued working on words patterns and recognizing these patterns in words we are reading!

We also had a Veteran's Day assembly and learned about different equipment used and how to fold a flag!

In science we have started working on planning our public service announcements we will be taping about water conservation!

What We Did This Week!

Hello!

We had another great week in 3Y.  We had to work on reviewing our whole group expectations a few times, but overall we were working hard and following directions!  We started learning about multiplication and division in math this week.  Tonight, your student will be bringing home fact triangles (With an instruction sheet on how to use them!) to practice their multiplication and division facts!  This is not an expected part of nightly homework, but it would be very beneficial to have your student practice these a few times throughout the week.

In science we are wrapping up our water unit and will begin working on creating water public service announcements next week!

In reading we have been working on identifying character traits and learning about personal narratives!

Ms. Pam also came this week to help us use a map to find clues on a scavenger hunt!

Please remember to return the Friday Folder on Monday!!  I replaced any missing ones, so everyone will be bringing one home tonight!

Here are a few pictures from our week!

Using our bodies to answer multiplication problems!  We had to make the number with our bodies!
