Creating Shapes With Straws and Ties!!

We used plastic straws and twisty ties to create shapes!  We created triangles  and squares, then moved on to changing them into parallelograms and rhombuses!

Our Public Service Announcements

In science, we put our water knowledge to use!  We have created Public Service Announcements that revolve around current water issues.  We have uploaded these to our school youtube account, so you will not be able to search for this video.  You have to have a link to view.  Here are the links to the videos!  The third graders did an amazing job working on these, a big thank you to Mr. Slabaugh for helping us with this project!

Iowa Assessments!!

Let's Get Lost!

Pam Holtz, from Washington County Conservation, came today and did an activity to test our map skills with us!  We were divided into four teams for each class, and we were given an aerial map of the school.  We had to locate 8 different spots and navigate to them using the map!  At each spot our groups got a clue about an animal, at the end we put all the clues together to figure out which animal each group had!  We had a lot of fun and did a wonderful job!  Ask your student what their groups animal was! :)

Hink Pinks!!!

A Hink pink is a pair of rhyming words that matches a silly definition.  For example, a black bird that does not fly fast......a slow crow!!  We worked on solving 10 of these pairs and even made up some of our own!!  This was great practice rhyming words!

Walking Field Trip to The Kalona Historical Village Quilt Museum

To correlate with reading The Keeping Quilt in reading class, we visited the Kalona Historical Village Quilt Museum today!  First, Ms. Ferry showed us a quilt made by her great grandmother, and explained how quilts are made.  She then showed us a 9 patch quilt, as well as some other examples of 9 patch quilts that can be found on the sidewalks in Kalona.  Next students got to create their own 9 patch quilts with fabric by gluing it on to card stock. After making their quilts, students got to tour the Amish quilt museum and the English quilt museum. Ask your child about his/her favorite quilts - there were lots of really neat ones!
